A durable event core
A Rust-native foundation targeting a tested subset of Kafka compatibility, with a shared append-only event history.
OPEN-SOURCE VISION9 Sigma is building a developer-first platform to stream, understand, and put real-time data to work—without stitching the story together across tools.
01 / THE OPPORTUNITY
Real-time data doesn’t travel through just one tool. Developers often piece together streaming, queues, debugging, schema management, and analytics before they can understand what happened.
9 Sigma’s goal is a more connected workflow: a shared event history with tools that make the movement and state of data easier to see, explain, and act on.
Read our product thinking ↗02 / PLATFORM VISION
From the first event to the next insight, 9 Sigma is designed to bring the pieces closer together.
A Rust-native foundation targeting a tested subset of Kafka compatibility, with a shared append-only event history.
OPEN-SOURCE VISIONIndependent broadcast and work-queue state on the same event history, designed for different ways of consuming data.
PLANNEDInspection, diagnostics, and bounded replay previews to help developers investigate safely.
PLANNEDFuture materialisation into Iceberg, DuckLake, and MotherDuck, alongside schema and contract tools.
COMMERCIAL VISIONPlatform capabilities above describe the product vision. The current implementation is an early storage prototype.
03 / THE WORKFLOW
Our first product hypothesis is simple: make it easier to understand an event from the moment it enters the system.
Applications send events to a shared log.
Developers explore history and understand subscription state.
Preview events without changing live consumer state.
Move durable event data toward analytical destinations.
Inspect the event journey and explore what comes next.
Illustrative workflow and interface; not a screenshot of an available product.
04 / THE ROAD AHEAD
We are sequencing the work around real evidence, with each stage building on the one before it.
Rust workspace, local storage prototypes, checkpoint recovery, fault tests, and Linux-based verification.
CURRENT WORKA tested Kafka subset, independent subscriptions and work queues, a CLI, diagnostics, and safe replay preview.
PLANNED MVPClient compatibility, operational testing, security, replication, and object-storage tiering as separately reviewed stages.
FUTURESchema contracts, Iceberg and DuckLake materialisation, analytics destinations, and managed deployment.
FUTURE / COMMERCIALSequence is directional, not a delivery commitment. Capabilities require validation and approval.
05 / BUILT IN THE OPEN
We believe infrastructure earns trust through transparency. The streaming foundation is being developed in the open; paid schema and analytics products are planned separately.

The current repository contains experimental storage and recovery work. It is not yet a production broker or a claim of Kafka interoperability.
